The Movement for Democratic Change - Zimbabwe (MDC) was established in 1999 by a coalition of trade unionists, non-governmental organizations, students, and various societal bodies. The iconic first president of the MDC party in Zimbabwe was Dr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, who sadly passed away in February 2018. Following the passing of Tsvangirai, there have been unconstitutional skirmishes by self-serving individuals driven by personal agendas to undermine the party's constitution and impose themselves as leaders. The Zimbabwe MDC is fundamentally a people's project, where all power resides with the people. The people have expressed their will and are now reclaiming their party through the MDC Restoration—a bold, precise, and strategic agenda. Join us on this journey to restore the MDC legacy and complete the vision initiated by our founders, aiming to liberate Zimbabwe from the failed Zanu-pf regime.
The MDC constitution is the sacrosanct document of the MDC party in Zimbabwe that governs all the activities, policies, and processes of the party. It is essential that the constitution is adhered to at all times in every decision-making process.
All activities of the MDC party in Zimbabwe should be conducted in a democratic, transparent, and accountable manner. Decisions within the various organs of the Zimbabwe MDC should be deliberated and collectively agreed upon. All leaders must embody and practice servant leadership at all times while representing the party.
The branch should remain the starting point for all members of the MDC party in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe MDC will embark on a constituency-based mobilisation effort that will leave no voting constituency behind.
Leadership within the MDC party in Zimbabwe will emerge from the grassroots level, beginning with Ward leaders and cascading up through Districts, Provinces, and ultimately to the National level.
As has been the norm with the MDC party in Zimbabwe's past 4 National Congresses, all candidates to the NSC, including the presidium, will be nominated by provincial structures.
The MDC party in Zimbabwe was formed to bring about democratic change for our beloved nation. The Zimbabwe MDC Restoration agenda aims to complete the struggle to emancipate our people from the draconian system of rule imposed by the ruling Zanu PF party.
